Additional Information

Our physiotherapists use a variety of techniques and industry leading equipment to help you get better as quickly as possible.

About Physiotherapy

With a patient-centred approach, our physiotherapists use evidence-informed knowledge of rehabilitation sciences, anatomy, kinesiology and physiology to assess, treat, and manage pain, injuries, movement dysfunction, and chronic conditions.

The goal of physiotherapy is to empower, promote independence and improve the quality of life for people across all ages and abilities.

Our physiotherapists will work with you to put together a treatment plan, for your condition or injury, so you can get back to enjoying life and the activities you love. Treatment will be hands on and educational, and may require you to do certain stretches or exercises on your own.

Physiotherapists work with clients of all ages and with a wide range of health conditions. Whether it’s pain management and rehabilitation from an acute injury like a sprained ankle or management of chronic conditions such as diabetes or heart disease, a physiotherapist can help.

A physiotherapist also provides education and treatments aimed at health promotion and disease and injury prevention.

Key Benefits
  • Relieve muscle tightness/pain
  • Increase muscle strength/flexibility
  • Increase joint mobility
  • Rehabilitate an injury
  • Recover from a car accident
  • Reduce medication consumption
  • Improve total body wellness

We will get you feeling healthier, more flexible, and stronger in no time!

What Happens During A Physiotherapy Appointment?

During the first visit, the physiotherapist will complete a detailed health history form, followed by a hands-on assessment that includes an evaluation of pain and movement patterns, joint mobility, flexibility, muscular strength and reflexes. If necessary, the physiotherapist will examine relevant imaging results, lab tests and medical or surgical notes.

The physiotherapist will establish a diagnosis and work with you to develop a treatment plan based on your goals. Emphasis is placed on correcting the pain and dysfunction and preventing its recurrence

Who Can See A Physiotherapist?

Physiotherapy treats a wide range of health conditions and injuries in all people, from pediatric to geriatric patients. Our physiotherapists help people who are dealing with issues of workplace accidents, sports injuries, pregnancy-related pain, motor vehicle accidents and stress-related ailments.

Physiotherapy also helps with acute injuries, chronic conditions, injury prevention and disabilities, improvement of optimal function and general sports performance. Once patients feel better, many continue to see their physiotherapist to help prevent further injury and treat the ailments of everyday stressors

Types of Treatments
  • Joint mobilization to reduce pain and stiffness
  • Hot and cold therapy to relieve pain, reduce swelling and speed up healing
  • Electrotherapy (interferential current, ultrasound, muscle stimulation and transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation – TENS)
  • Muscle therapy to release tight and painful muscles (soft tissue release/massage)
  • Laser Therapy
  • Acupuncture or Intramuscular Stimulation (IMS) to release muscle tension, decrease pain and improve healing
  • Work and occupational re-training and return to work planning
  • Personalized exercise or rehabilitation programs to improve range of motion, strength and function
  • Supervision of the patient completing their prescribed exercises in our rehab space
  • Prescription of supportive and protective devices, braces and equipment
  • Patient education and advice on health promotion and future injury prevention
What is Intramuscular Stimulation (IMS)?

IMS is a therapeutic treatment that uses acupuncture needles to target tight, hyperactive and sore muscles. IMS releases tight muscles, reducing nerve pain and irritation, and restoring a normal range of motion. The effects are cumulative, as each treatment builds upon the previous session to stimulate healing.

A Note on Physiotherapy Payments

We can direct-bill most extended healthcare plans for all physiotherapy services, and most plans cover 80-100% of the treatment cost. Some insurance plans may require a medical doctor’s referral in order to reimburse you for the appointment cost.

Please check with your health insurance provider to confirm your level of coverage.

ICBC covers the cost of physiotherapy treatments within the first 12 weeks after a car accident. They may cover further treatments with approval.

WorkSafe BC – If approved, WorkSafe will cover the cost of your treatments for the injured area. Until that time, you will be expected to pay in full for your physiotherapy care at the time the service is rendered. Upon approval, you will be refunded any extra monies paid.
